Public Art Registration

The Art in City Life Commission must approve all work proposed for City property or funded in any part with public dollars, with the exception of City Parks. For projects proposed for City Parks, call (401) 785- 9450. Additional boards and commissions may require review or approval, depending on proposed project goals and site conditions.  Public Art Registration Forms are due twenty-one days prior to the following regular meeting of the Art in City Life Commission. The Art in City Life Commission also:

    • Reviews Concept Designs for privately-initiated permanent public art projects on private property in the Downtown D-1 Zone and the Capital Center Special Redevelopment District and make recommendations to the Downtown Design Review Committee or the Capital Center Commission.
    • Conducts a Site and Design Review and make recommendations regarding the acceptance of gifts of permanent artwork and memorials on City property.
    • Conducts a Site and Design Review and make recommendations regarding the acceptance of temporary loans and exhibitions of artwork on City property.

NOTE: Artwork will not be accepted nor displayed by the City if it includes nudity, violence or explicit language or depicts discrimination based on race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
