Cultural Exchanges with Global Partners
During the last week of March 2017, artist, curator, and Community Innovation Lab seed grantee Silaphone Nhongvongsouthy welcomed emissaries from Sri Lanka to Providence for a cultural exchange visit. Sri Weerasinghe, Coordinating Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Mahaweli Development & Environment and Amarajeewa Thelikada Pllya Guruge, artist & CEO of NeoGraphic Printing Company, attended the opening exhibition of Nhongvongsouthy’s pop-up exhibition on Thursday, March 30th and joined Stephanie Fortunato and Micah Salkind from Art, Culture + Tourism for an afternoon tour on Friday, March 19th. The group braved rainy weather to visit Cumberland’s Blackstone River Theatre for a cultural conversation with Rhode Island Congressman, David Cicilline, and reconvened in downtown Providence to visit cultural attractions like Big Nazo, Trinity Repertory Company, and Seen/Unseen.
